Anniversary And/Or Other Special Events

In 2025 our Society hosted the District 8 AGM and District 8 Fall meeting. Great experiences in hosting and organizing, real learning curve. Seventeen of our members attended welcoming and meeting other members from D8 societies. During the D8 AGM, we held a silent auction that helped offset the costs.

During the D8 AGM we held a flower show, something not done in a number of years. With members from the D8 societies, thought a perfect time. Beautiful displays were enjoyed by all. Was a great learning opportunity for our members, planning on another in 2026.

Took a couple years to organize and pick the perfect time, we made it - visited Whistling Gardens. Main purpose was to see the peonies. Planned last year (2024), unfortunately we would have been at the very last days as the weather shifted the growing season. Trip in 2025 was perfect, weather, tour, learnt so much about peonies and other flowers. When leaving we visited Klomps in Stratford. Overall a perfect day!

Fundraisers

Main fundraiser is the craft show and penny sale held in November (2024). Numerous vendors offered a selection of home made items and products. Our society table sold plants, garden items and baking. People were able to learn more about how our society contributes to the village of Hensall plus OHA across Ontario. We had 2 new members join.

We held a plant sale during the town-wide yard sale in May. Great opportunity to speak with members of the community.

Highlights

Year was one of great learnings, experiences and sorrow. Hosting the D8 AGM and Fall meeting in one year was a real accomplishment and experience for our society. During the year we had the opportunity in sharing who & what we do as a society plus what OHA does for Ontario. November craft show was very successful. We sponsored a Sunday free skate for the community, plus had a plant sale.
Sadly we loss a long time member & friend, Pat Noakes, a lady of great passion for gardening. Another member lost her son, and another lost a son in-law.

Society/Club Volunteer HoursThe volunteer hours we spend illustrates how valuable we are in our communities and across Ontario. As an analytical tool, volunteer hours can also be used to determine where time is being spent within a Society/Club, District, or organization which helps us make important decisions on programs, fundraising, and budget. For instance, horticultural Society/Club members volunteered 445,387 hours in 2024!
