Anniversary And/Or Other Special Events

During the 2025 year we celebrated 15th anniversary partnership with National Historic Site at Sault Locks. We have partnered with them in using the historic greenhouse that was used in the past to grow all the flowers for use at the Site. Now we have a group of volunteers that grow flowers for use in the Lock gardens as well as grow plants for our year plant sale. Our plant sale has been providing exceptional fundraising for the Society for years now because of this amazing partnership!

Our 2026 year we are looking forward to celebrating the Society's 100th Anniversary. We are hoping to have a number of speakers on flower competitions, history of gardens in Sault Ste. Marie, and photography of the Garden. We are partnering with City to design a 100th garden bed at one of the local floral display garden beds that they run yearly. We are hoping to partner with another organization to create or upgrade a garden bed within the City.

Fundraisers

Our main fundraiser was another success for 2025. We had a group of 8 women growing plants in the historic canal greenhouse. With these plants and plants donated from the community we have raised substantial monies to engage with the community through other events like Seedy Saturday.

Highlights

We held our Annual Seedy Saturday Event at a new bigger location this year. The event was a success and had great turnout from the community, new vendors along with more engagement with youth with crafts and face painting. We are looking forward to building this event in future years within this new event space. We held our annual plant sale that was hosted beside the historic greenhouse at the National Canal Site. Again, great turnout and almost sold out of many of the plants for sale. The remainder were donated to community gardens to grow.

Society/Club Volunteer HoursThe volunteer hours we spend illustrates how valuable we are in our communities and across Ontario. As an analytical tool, volunteer hours can also be used to determine where time is being spent within a Society/Club, District, or organization which helps us make important decisions on programs, fundraising, and budget. For instance, horticultural Society/Club members volunteered 445,387 hours in 2024!
