Fundraisers

Our main fundraiser is our Plant Sale on the Saturday before Mothers’ Day. The week prior to the sale, a team of diggers go out to members’ gardens to split perennials and bring them the Meeting Place at the Williamstown Fairgrounds. A second team pots them up for the sale and puts a colour coded price tag in each pot. Other members deliver plants, seedlings or both to the Meeting Place. There is a long lineup when the doors open at 8:00 am, with well over half of the items sold by 9:00 am.

Highlights

To introduce us to the wider community, our President led two workshops on pruning trees and shrubs, conducted three media interviews and wrote three information packages. We added a sharpening service to our popular May plant sale and held a bus tour to the Montreal Botanical Gardens. At our local museum, we maintained a children’s garden, participated in a summer camp program and promoted the “Year of the Sunflower”. We continued to award a bursary to a Char Lan High School student pursuing higher education in horticulture

Society/Club Volunteer HoursThe volunteer hours we spend illustrates how valuable we are in our communities and across Ontario. As an analytical tool, volunteer hours can also be used to determine where time is being spent within a Society/Club, District, or organization which helps us make important decisions on programs, fundraising, and budget. For instance, horticultural Society/Club members volunteered 445,387 hours in 2024!
