Anniversary And/Or Other Special Events

The Woodstock Horticultural Society, founded in 1883, has long contributed to civic beautification and environmental stewardship. During our 125th anniversary, we planted commemorative trees and installed a plaque with government officials, but the plaque was later stolen. Although our centennial has passed, the Ministry requires a structure specifically marking the 100th anniversary, so WHS is working with the City of Woodstock to create a new permanent commemorative installation in Southside Park. This will include a centennial plaque and a Serviceberry tree, chosen for its ecological value and to complement the City’s proposed mosaic butterfly garden. In 2025, WHS continued community programming, volunteer work, and park stewardship while planning these centennial projects. In 2026, we will complete the installation, plant the Serviceberry, and continue our regular horticultural education and beautification initiatives.

Fundraisers

In 2025, the Woodstock Horticultural Society held its annual Plant Auction, raising $1,010.22, with strong participation from both members and the public. Two small plant sales added $109.50 to support our community projects. For 2026, WHS will focus on expanding the Plant Auction and introducing new merchandise, including a tote bag featuring our updated logo, to increase fundraising capacity. We also anticipate receiving $1,500 in provincial support to assist with our centennial‑related initiatives in Southside Park.

Highlights

The Woodstock Horticultural Society marked a standout year with our move to Huron Park Secondary School, the launch of a well‑received monthly newsletter, two popular bingo social nights, and new promotional postcards featuring our speaker list. We also revived an 1883 tradition by giving every member a plant in September, strengthening connection to our history and community.
