This year we moved the annual spring plant sale to the opening day at the Johnson's Farmer’s Market in Desbarats. Although this year’s opening day at the market seemed to be a little less busy than the previous years, our plant sale still had a steady flow of customers. Sales were on par with last year and we had much more visibility being adjacent to the market. This seems like a good fit for future plant sales and definitely worth returning to this space for next year to see if we can build a following of customers returning each year looking for plants. Planning ahead to the next spring plant sale, we will consider being better organized with the plants we grow and offer at the sale with a wider variety of veggie and herb plants. We plan to provide a list of what will be available in advance, in order to help bring more people to our sale. The native plant selection is also increasing in popularity, so organizing varieties to grow may help support the sales in this section.

Highlights

The official opening and celebration of the Bruce Station Horticultural Society Memorial Garden was held on Saturday, August 16th, 2025. Past BSHS members were celebrated and remembered at the ceremony. Many family relatives of past members attended to hear about the contributions made by their loved one and to see the flower planted in honour of those contributions.
Bruce Station Horticultural Society updated the program for their Flower Exhibition this year. The new program included vegetables, native plants and a variety of annual flowers.

Society/Club Volunteer HoursThe volunteer hours we spend illustrates how valuable we are in our communities and across Ontario. As an analytical tool, volunteer hours can also be used to determine where time is being spent within a Society/Club, District, or organization which helps us make important decisions on programs, fundraising, and budget. For instance, horticultural Society/Club members volunteered 445,387 hours in 2024!
