| Anniversary And/Or Other Special Events | The Gloucester Horticultural Society celebrated its 100th Anniversary this year. Many activities were held to underline our centennial including a strawberry social and the publication of a book entitled: Gloucester Horticultural Society 100 Years of Gardening. Advice collected from GHS members 1925-2025. The book provides an overview of horticulture through the last one hundred years. It reflects evolving gardening practices leading us to the present. | ||||||||

| Fundraisers | Our plant sale was quite successful this year. Although the day was cool and overcast, we were able to sell most of our plants and raise funds towards our activities in 2025. We had set up a membership table and we signed up several new members as well. We also had a silent auction during our Strawberry Social in June and were able to raise additional funds towards our Centennial activities. We also applied for funding from OMAFA for our centennial project. GHS partnered with the Gloucester Emergency Food Cupboard to buy 2 Sproutboxes for growing fresh food. | ||||||||
| Highlights | The highlight was the publication of a 156-page book of members' gardening insights from the past century and our evolving approaches. Edited by Candace Dressler, it includes articles gleaned from our yearbooks, calendars and articles written by Master Gardener and GHS Life Member, Fran Dennet, for the Riverview Park Review. The text includes photographs, sketches and helpful advice and practical guidance about vegetables, ornamentals, wildflowers, herbs, invasive plants, pollinator habitats, ecology, garden pests and designing water gardens. | ||||||||

| Society/Club Volunteer Hours | The volunteer hours we spend illustrates how valuable we are in our communities and across Ontario. As an analytical tool, volunteer hours can also be used to determine where time is being spent within a Society/Club, District, or organization which helps us make important decisions on programs, fundraising, and budget. For instance, horticultural Society/Club members volunteered 445,387 hours in 2024! Entry Instructions: | ||||||||
