Anniversary And/Or Other Special Events

In 2025 our club hosted the District 3 Fall AGM. This event was a success and for the first time, the fall meeting was bring your own lunch and a no fee admission for attendees. OHA expenses for meeting were just the cost of the hall. At this meeting our club received a trophy from District 3 for the work we did supplying flowers for Little Addie after her tragic passing.
In 2025 Carson Arthur was our special guest speaker and he did a talk on the "Dirt on Dirt". On March 2026 Carson will be returning to Tweed to do a special meeting on "Food Insecurity". Carson is presenting this talk free of charge to educate communities on the importance of growing food and how the changing climate affects the importance of sustainability. Food donations will be accepted and cash donations for the food bank.

Fundraisers

Our main fundraiser each year is our May long weekend plant sale which is held at the Memorial Park in the village of Tweed. Our club puts a lot of work into this by planting up many of our items in the fall where Joan tends to them till spring for the sale. Our revenue from this is event in 2025 was $4000. All the plants are pre priced before they arrive and the community looks forward to our sale and arrive early for the best selection.

Highlights

Our club had a great line up of speakers including Carson Arthur and speakers on air plants, new sunny annuals, fruit trees, pumpkin arrangement workshop and Christmas decorating.
Our club financially sponsors adult and children's horticultural entries at the Tweed Fair.
With hard work our club raised $4000 at our plant sale and these funds support planting of the many town gardens and planters and allows us to give out two $500 bursaries and supply butterfly kits to both schools kindergarten classes and library.
