Anniversary And/Or Other Special Events

Our Society hosted our District 7 AGM this year with 20 of our members assisting in the logistics of this successful event.
In addition, we held our usual events of a plant sale in May, a July picnic at a member property who has beautiful gardens that members could visit.
Our spring and fall flower shows were well represented. We held a day trip in June to visit properties in nearby Fergus.
We wrapped up our year with our AGM and end of year banquet where the flower show prized were awarded, with some local entertainment that was enjoyed by all.

Fundraisers

Our main fundraiser this year was the spring plant sale held in May on a weekend that has other community events going on, so many people are in town that day. We partner with the Agriculture Society to to combine efforts on use of space and resources and it is always a very successful event.

Highlights

This spring we continued the project at the Cenotaph in the centre of town, with completing the planting of shrubs and perennials that had been planned last year. The spring tulips had their first year of blooming after the reconstruction of the bed and put on a beautiful show.
We also contributed signage to the Town of Grand Valley signboards. New community signs were erected at the four main entrance roads to the town and the Horticulture Society emblem is on each sign. Our Society was also proud to host of our Districts spring AGM.

As an analytical tool, volunteer hours can also be used to determine where time is being spent within a Society/Club, District, or organization which helps us make important decisions on programs, fundraising, and budget. For instance, horticultural Society/Club members volunteered 445,387 hours in 2024!
