Anniversary And/Or Other Special Events

We have 4 guest speakers planned for 2025. We will be doing another cut flower workshop as the first was so successful.
We will tour a rose garden created by a local dairy farmer and a member’s garden to see shade verses sunny gardens.
We will do a seasonal themed photo contest, summer decorating contest and mini flower show again this year.
We continue to support beautification of our community by organizing the hanging baskets and planting twelve beds & boxes around the village of Maxville.
We also support beds in Apple Hill.
100 year Grant – We were granted the one time $1500 grant as our society is 100 yrs and going strong. We plan to use this money to revamp the beds at the Maxville Cenotaph.

Fundraisers

Our annual plant auction in May is our Societies largest fundraiser. Members and friends donate plants to be auctioned off. One of our members is truly knowledgeable and provides guidance to those attending. It is a fun and successful event.
We held a cement leaf and a cut flower workshop that also raised funds for the society.

We also participated in the OHA fund raiser selling 2 cases of tulip bubs to support the OHA organization.

Highlights

We had a very informative bog tour given by Premier Tech. We toured their plant to see how the various soils/components are mixed together.
We held 2 successful works shops. One for cement rhubarb steppingstones and one for novices to learn how to arrange cut flowers for a competition, These were then entered into our flower show at the Maxville Manor. This was very popular, gaining us new members as well as boosting the enteries exhibited.
We created a garden water feature display for the educational part of the Maxville Fair.

Society/Club Volunteer HoursThe volunteer hours we spend illustrates how valuable we are in our communities and across Ontario. As an analytical tool, volunteer hours can also be used to determine where time is being spent within a Society/Club, District, or organization which helps us make important decisions on programs, fundraising, and budget. For instance, horticultural Society/Club members volunteered 445,387 hours in 2024!
