Our plant sale is quite exceptionally well organized with plants divided into sections of type and light requirements. We are often complimented on our large selection of Native plants- we had 4 large tables full of native plants this year!

Highlights

Our 100th Anniversary was celebrated with a tea party, tree planting and themed meetings. We planted hundreds of Tulipa tarda bulbs in the public gardens which we maintain, in the fall of 2024 so that they will bloom to celebrate our anniversary in the spring. We contributed financial and volunteer support for the seed library at the local library and maintained 4 gardens in the town of EG. Our EG in Bloom garden celebration was popular this year and we distributed over 60 Great Garden signs to residents of EG who sent us photos of their garden

Youth Club Report

Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of April, May, June, September and October in our local public gardens and at the Mount Albert Community CentreOur Junior Gardeners sowed seeds into "pizza" gardens, created terrariums and planted annuals and bulbs in our local public gardens that we maintain. We don't do competitions with the kids. We spent $450.00 on supplies for our program this year. Our youth committee meets in February or March and we plan our activities for the year and divide up the to do list. We have 5-6 volunteers who help run the program. Youth members do not elect their own officers.

Youth Club Comments

We open the meetings with an icebreaker activity and this really helps some of the kids get acclimatized.
We are having some issues with unacceptable behaviour and would love to know if other clubs have faced this and how they resolved it. We have one child in particular who has become very disruptive and we are in debate about allowing him to continue.

Society/Club Volunteer HoursThe volunteer hours we spend illustrates how valuable we are in our communities and across Ontario. As an analytical tool, volunteer hours can also be used to determine where time is being spent within a Society/Club, District, or organization which helps us make important decisions on programs, fundraising, and budget. For instance, horticultural Society/Club members volunteered 445,387 hours in 2024!
