Anniversary And/Or Other Special Events

We are planning a number of events including day trips to visit nurseries and other public gardens. Workshops are also being planned. Outreach activities will include a table at seniors' events, the local farmers' market and library events. We continue to distribute our brochures and posters to over 50 locations throughout Burlington for publicity and marketing purposes. At our monthly meetings we now have judged (OJES standards) flower shows and are introducing a judged photography show. We have started forming committees such as our Special Events and Workshop Committee to encourage more volunteering.

Fundraisers

In December 2024 we had a Floral Centrepiece Workshop which had a profit of $400 and our plant sale held in May 2025 had the highest sales ($3,639.) and over-all profit of $2,563. since 2015 (numbers before that date were not compared).

Highlights

We had 3 public workshops: weaving willow branches, Christmas Centrepiece & a Spring Floral design. For publicity we organized outreach tables at Seniors Active Living Fair; at an Environmental Forum & twice at our Farmer’s Market. For Burlington's Heritage Week we offered 3 tours of our Maple Park Garden. We donated potting soil to JoBrant Wellness House. We completed major revisions to our website & totally revised & updated our Constitution & By-Laws. For the plant sale we re-potted 1,000 bare-rooted plants to avoid spreading jumping worms.

Society/Club Volunteer HoursThe volunteer hours we spend illustrates how valuable we are in our communities and across Ontario. As an analytical tool, volunteer hours can also be used to determine where time is being spent within a Society/Club, District, or organization which helps us make important decisions on programs, fundraising, and budget. For instance, horticultural Society/Club members volunteered 445,387 hours in 2024!
