Anniversary And/Or Other Special Events

KHS invites speakers to our monthly meetings, produces a monthly newsletter, hosts an annual Awards and Social evening, holds a Spring Flower Show and a Fall Harvest and Flower show, organizes a summer road trip garden tour and conducts weekly garden strolls of members gardens through July and August.

A tree was planted in public green space for a life member and arrangements were made for a tree to be planted in the spring of 2026 for our past president.

The Society participated in the North Grenville Volunteer Seminar, the North Grenville Sustainability Fair, the North Grenville Farmers Market, the Giving Gardens, the Beth Donovan Hospice, Hey Day (fund raising) for the local hospital, the Kemptville Campus Community Gardens and a local Seedy Saturday event. The society continues to maintain the public gardens at Rotary Park and the Post Office green space.

Fundraisers

- The KHS holds an annual spring plant sale that is the society's main fundraiser; it allows the society to be financially sustainable. This event is advertised and promoted in the community and is well attended.

- Presentation to 100 Men Who Care resulted in a small grant for the third time.

- KHS produced a small coil-backed 2026 calendar featuring outstanding photographs of local birds. Once costs were recovered, the additional funds are to be donated to cancer research in recognition of the society’s past president.

Highlights

KHS hosted the District 1 AGM. The day-long event was a success including 140 participants from 9 societies. A “How to” document was developed to assist future societies. Our involvement with Communities in Bloom contributed to a 5-bloom (top) rating. Members updated a memorial garden at Kemptville Retirement Living. In partnership with the municipality and the Rotary Club, a plaque was added to a cairn in a downtown park recognizing the historical significance of society’s involvement in the community since 1899.

Society/Club Volunteer HoursThe volunteer hours we spend illustrates how valuable we are in our communities and across Ontario. As an analytical tool, volunteer hours can also be used to determine where time is being spent within a Society/Club, District, or organization which helps us make important decisions on programs, fundraising, and budget. For instance, horticultural Society/Club members volunteered 445,387 hours in 2024!
