Anniversary And/Or Other Special Events

We had no special events per say in 2025.
But I would say the most special event for the Land O' lakes Horticultural Society in 2025 is getting a Chair and a full Executive for the upcoming year!
We have gone without a full Executive and Chair for 2 years, having only a Secretary and Treasurer.
We are so looking forward to getting back on track and building the club up again.

Fundraisers

We had our annual plant sale in May. Due to unexpected expenses, the plant sale made $1500.00 and the winter sowing $1700.00.
The greenhouse tarp was destroyed over the winter and needed to be replaced, as well, a new heater for the greenhouse had to be purchased.
We hold the plant sale at one of our member's property, but it has been decided to give them a break next year. With 100 people traipsing through their property and using their greenhouse, we decided to work on a new idea/fundraiser for spring of 2026. The goal is to appeal to, and involve, as many members as possible by allowing everyone to contribute in their own way. There could be a silent auction, garden art, garden books, arrangements of perennials, annuals, veggies, herbs in a pot/container/old boot/wicker basket/teapot.... Members would all bring something to contribute. There would be a children's area for planting. Coffee and muffins. Location will be more central in town, a real family and community event!

Highlights

The main events for Land O' Lakes Garden Club in 2025 was our 2nd annual Pitch in for Mother Earth (PI 4 ME). This community event is in conjunction with Earth Day and is a joint effort with the Land O' Lakes Lions Club (they put on a free BBQ), with support from both North Frontenac and Addington Highlands Townships. The community joins together to clean up our hamlet with safety vests, grabbers, bags and gloves provided.
And, after a lot of hard work we now have a Chair and full Executive after two years of having neither! Very exciting!

Society/Club Volunteer HoursThe volunteer hours we spend illustrates how valuable we are in our communities and across Ontario. As an analytical tool, volunteer hours can also be used to determine where time is being spent within a Society/Club, District, or organization which helps us make important decisions on programs, fundraising, and budget. For instance, horticultural Society/Club members volunteered 445,387 hours in 2024!
