Anniversary And/Or Other Special Events

In March we held a booth at the Innisfil Seedy Saturday where we answered questions, and handed out club meeting fliers.
On Saturday May 17th our Annual Spring Flower Show and Tea was held with very good attendance.
Also in May we held our primary fund raiser- the Innisfil Garden Club Plant and Bake Sale at the South Innisfil Arboretum.
Our club held a booth at the Innisfil Farmers Market for two Thursday dates, one in June, and one in July to answer gardening questions and promote ourselves.
Our board and one extra person bought tickets for a table at the charity event "Innisfil Dinner in White" hosted by the Innisfil Arts, Culture and Heritage Council, and the Innisfil Rotary Club to raise money for a local children's charity. This was another opportunity to make our presence felt locally.
On Saturday September 13th we held the Annual Fall Flower and Vegetable Show and Tea, again with good attendance.
The Annual Meeting was held on Sunday Nov.16th with Jeff Mason as guest speaker.

Fundraisers

in May we held our primary fund raiser- the Annual Innisfil Garden Club Plant and Bake Sale at the South Innisfil Arboretum. There are potted perennials, vegetables and any other plant material all donated by our members and friends for sale. As we did last year, some native plants were ordered for our public gardens and some were reserved for sale at this event. The bake sale sells out every year and is a great asset. There is also a membership booth selling draw tickets for 3 prizes, and memberships are also sold. This is a major effort by our board and volunteers, and gains us more funds than our government grant. Almost twice the funds in after expenses.
The two large Saturday Flower Show & Teas we hold are also fundraisers and make a decent amount of money after expenses, but less than the plant sale.
They are open to the public after judging is over. The tickets are $10. for entry and the tea. The event is held at our meeting location.

Highlights

Innisfil Garden Club (Gilford & District H. S.) were able to participate in the Innisfil Farmers Market for two dates, one in June and the other close to Canada Day in July, to promote ourselves and answer gardening questions. It can be difficult getting enough volunteers for these events.
In 2025 a potted native Red Oak tree was purchased and planted in the fall along the Rotary Trail on town property here in Innisfil. Native plants were also planted in the wooded area and in sun exposed areas. We plan to do this again in 2026.

Society/Club Volunteer HoursThe volunteer hours we spend illustrates how valuable we are in our communities and across Ontario. As an analytical tool, volunteer hours can also be used to determine where time is being spent within a Society/Club, District, or organization which helps us make important decisions on programs, fundraising, and budget. For instance, horticultural Society/Club members volunteered 445,387 hours in 2024!
