Anniversary And/Or Other Special Events

Newmarket Garden Club will be formally celebrating its 100-Year Anniversary on June 6, 2026.
Our celebrations will include a Historical Exhibition of items from our archives and a Horticultural Exhibition indoors at our usual Newmarket Community Centre location.
We will also be holding an Invitational Design Exhibition outdoors in the Splash Pad (water turned off!) of the Newmarket Community Centre. The theme of the Invitational Design Exhibition is "Let's Celebrate!"
Our hope is that residents and officials of the town of Newmarket along with other well-wishers from further afield will be present to celebrate with us on the day at this location.
As it is our 100-year anniversary, we will be applying to OMAFA for the special grant available allowing us to purchase a permanent structure to mark this memorable milestone in our club's history.

Fundraisers

Our fundraisers follow the usual pattern of plant sales, prize draws, and donations. We were pleased to note that the 50:50 draw which was launched during the year turned out to be very successful!
Also, in 2025, we sold succulent planters which were made up and donated by one of our generous members.

Highlights

NGC hosted an advice clinic at York Region Food Network's Seedy Saturday at Newmarket Library and a Spring Planter Workshop at Amica Newmarket for their residents. At the D5 AGM NGC won 28 ribbons, the most points in Horticulture and the most points in Horticulture and Design. Members submitted 666 Flower show and 35 design entries at our shows; with 200+ photos of members' gardens submitted to our newsletter. The very successful Fabulous Front Garden initiative was launched acknowledging the efforts of residents in making Newmarket beautiful.

Society/Club Volunteer HoursThe volunteer hours we spend illustrates how valuable we are in our communities and across Ontario. As an analytical tool, volunteer hours can also be used to determine where time is being spent within a Society/Club, District, or organization which helps us make important decisions on programs, fundraising, and budget. For instance, horticultural Society/Club members volunteered 445,387 hours in 2024!
