2025
Anniversary And/Or Other Special Events

Georgina-Brock Garden Club partnered with neighbouring Cannington Horticultural Society to host the annual Seedy Saturday event on April 12, 2025, 9am - 2pm attracting over 700 attendees. This free event featured a huge seed swap/giveaway table, 30-plus vendor tables, garden-related information tables, children's story time and activity bags, etc.
Gardeners from 13 households of various ages and experience joined the Pefferlaw Community Garden Collective in 2025, for the third growing season. Vegetable harvests were bountiful thanks to regular maintenance by dedicated members and adherence to organic gardening principles which support soil nutrition and plant health. 2025 highlights include: planting permanent crops like asparagus, raspberries, haskap berry bushes, Egyptian walking onions and a third apple tree; installing a rainwater catchment system, solarizing grass for a new garden bed, starting a flower bed, installing plant trellises, planting a cover crop this fall.

Our Silent Auction in October raised $326, which was 50% more than the previous year. We also offer a draw table for plants and garden-related items at some of our monthly meetings for a donation of $2 per ticket. In 2025, $375 was raised.

Highlights

In May, Georgina-Brock Garden Club was honoured with an Award of Merit for Volunteerism by the Town of Georgina for our good work within our community. Our club also received a Certificate of Appreciation in September for many years of continued support of flower shows in the Sunderland Fall Fair.

Society/Club Volunteer HoursThe volunteer hours we spend illustrates how valuable we are in our communities and across Ontario. As an analytical tool, volunteer hours can also be used to determine where time is being spent within a Society/Club, District, or organization which helps us make important decisions on programs, fundraising, and budget. For instance, horticultural Society/Club members volunteered 445,387 hours in 2024!
