Virtual Presentation: Pollinators and the Plants They Favour
Monday, April 20 at 7:00 PM (Zoom)
Pollinators play an essential role in healthy ecosystems and in our food supply. Bumble bees, solitary bees, flies, butterflies, and moths are among the most familiar pollinators, and in Canada more than one‑third of our food crops depend on bees alone. Fruits such as cherries, peaches, and plums; vegetables like cucumbers, melons, and squash; and oilseeds including canola and sunflower all rely on pollination.
In recent years, pollinator populations have declined sharply due to climate change, habitat loss (including the loss of native plants), and pesticide overexposure. These declines threaten plant diversity, ecosystem stability, and long‑term food security.
Our presentation will explore:
- Pollination
- Pollen and nectar
- Pollinators
- Plants
- Species at risk
- Q & A
