LOCATION: District 10 spans the counties of Elgin, Middlesex, Oxford, Perth and into Lambton Shores, in the Thames Valley area of Southwestern Ontario. The growing zone in District 10 ranges from 5a to 6b, due to the moderating climate influence of the Great Lakes. With an unique and diverse landscape, District 10 consists of Carolinian Forests, river valleys, meadows, wetlands, fertile farmlands and urban areas.
WHAT WE DO: The District supports the 22 Societies within its borders by hosting leadership training workshops, by empowering participants to create positive change and growth within their Societies, by building knowledge and skills, by exploring common issues and finding solutions, by promoting the protection of the environment, and by encouraging biodiversity and sustainability practices in horticulture.
SOCIETIES: Our 22 Societies welcome you! If you enjoy growing plants or want to know how to start, contact the Society closest to you to enjoy all the benefits membership has to offer. Many of our Societies offer youth programs. Benefits of belonging to a Society: connect with others with similar interests, make new friends, receive discounts at garden centres, sharing of seeds and plants, and an opportunity to contribute to the beautification of your community.
Societies encourage interest in all areas of horticulture and the protection of the environment by holding general meetings with expert guest speakers; encouraging the planting of trees, shrubs and flowers; promoting healthy eating by growing our own foods; inspiring youth through educational programs; arranging tours and field trips; promoting the spirit of friendly competition in flower, vegetable & design shows; by sharing knowledge and skills, sharing of plants and seeds; and distributing horticultural information.
The joy of gardening is experienced by all age groups and across all skill levels, from youth and first-time gardeners, all the way up to experienced gardeners, Master Gardeners and Horticulturalists. Regardless if your garden is a tiny balcony or a sprawling country estate, or somewhere in between, there is something of interest for everyone at a Horticultural Society.
OHA CONVENTION 2021: Thank you to everyone who registered and attended the first-ever virtual 2021 OHA Convention & AGM hosted by District 10 July 16-18, 2021! We hope you enjoyed the experience, and the opportunity to log back in for 6 months following the Convention. Special thanks to Michael Zaigh and his team at Western University Conference Services; Producer's Post Media Craig Davies; our Sponsors; the Marketplace Vendors; the Speakers; the entire District 10 Convention planning team including our volunteers; and of course, to the OHA! It's been an overwhelming success, we're delighted to report! 🙂
