Huntsville Horticultural Society
District 18
Welcome to the Huntsville Horticultural Society's website.
The Huntsville Horticultural Society was founded in 1925 and is a non-profit organization made up entirely of volunteers. Our goal is to promote Horticulture in the Town of Huntsville.
Anyone can join by paying a yearly membership fee. Members enjoy a discount at some of our local Garden Centres. We are open to all age groups and have an active Junior Horticultural Society.
We hold monthly general meetings that feature speakers, demonstrations, or workshops. We usually offer a yearly Plant Sale, Flower Shows, and a Garden Tour. The Society also sponsors a bursary for any student graduating from Huntsville High School who is pursuing a course of study in horticulture or a related field.
We actively participate in the beautification of Huntsville. We are responsible for purchasing and planting the flowers for the planters in Downtown Huntsville. In the fall we remove all of these annuals in preparation for winter. We also help plant barrels and cubes that will be placed around town by the Parks Department. The Society is also entirely responsible for planting and maintenance of the barrels and garden at the Huntsville Public Library. In recent years, we have helped the Parks Department maintain the Veteran's Memorial Garden & plant the gardens at the Brunel Locks and the Flag Park. As well, we aided the Rotary Club by planting several small gardens at Orchard Park and Avery Beach.
