Societies in Ontario
Bronte Horticultural Society
District 6
Bronte Horticultural Society, established in 1925, grew to 133 in 1956 and down to 85 in 1970. The Society has always been actively engaged as a gardening club for people from across Oakville and membership has been relatively steady over the years.
The small park between olf Highway 2 and the lake, The Gore, was planted with trees and benches installed and landscaping was conducted at a church and a hospital. The Bronte Hort Society is responsible for maintaining the gardens at Sovereign House in Bronte.
We are an active group of over 100 members with a friendly and supportive social environment. If you have an interest in gardening and want to learn more, you are welcome to join.

Monthly meetings are held the fourth Tuesday of each month from September through June at 7:00 pm, at Sir John Colborne Recreation Centre for Seniors, 1565 Old Lakeshore Rd. (south of Lakeshore Rd. W. and east of Third Line).
We meet monthly, except for July and August, to hear speakers on a wide range of current garden and plant topics. Hands-on information is shared in an informal manner between member gardeners at our meetings and events. We also have Master Gardener members who provide expert information and advice just for the asking.
We hold special events throughout the year – a garden tour of our members’ gardens combined with a picnic lunch, an annual plant sale in May at South Oakville Centre (Rebecca St. & Third Line), a fun bus tour to interesting garden sites within Southern Ontario, pot luck dinners and social events. Members may also volunteer to assist us in maintaining the garden at historic Sovereign House, 7 West River Road, in Bronte.
