Ayr Horticultural Society (North Dumfries Garden Club)
District 19
Welcome to the North Dumfries Garden Club - NDGC (officially the Ayr Horticultural Society). The Club has been active in Ayr and the surrounding township since 1920. If you enjoy gardening and would like to meet other members of the community that share your interest, getting involved in the Club is the best way to make new friends, increase your knowledge of gardening and nature, and participate in the beautification of the local area.
Our members are not expert gardeners, so no need to worry about how much or how little you already know about gardening. At our monthly meetings (Jan-May and Sept-Nov) members enjoy presentations from guest speakers known for their expertise on a variety of topics ranging from how to manage garden pests to gardening for its therapeutic value. Some meetings offer hands-on workshops and usually there is one pot-luck during the calendar year. There is ample opportunity to get to know fellow members during a time of fellowship and refreshments at each meeting.
Members are encouraged to participate in various ways. The Club owns a small park in Ayr and volunteers maintain its gardens as well as the planters in Ayr and Roseville. In partnership with the township, the Club will be investigating several new initiatives, including the expansion of community gardens and overall community involvement. The Club also helps support the annual School Fair. Ideas to expand our service to the community are always welcomed.
