Presenter: Loretta Shields
Loretta’s mom showed her how to sow four o’clock seeds when she was 9 years old. And that is when she got hooked on gardening. Loretta holds a BSc in Agriculture from the University of Guelph, specializing in Plant Protection. She is the President of the Smithville Garden Club. Her gardening interests include growing, harvesting and preserving food and sowing and growing native plants in an effort to attract many different native pollinators. She is continually experimenting with new techniques to increase success in germinating native plant seeds.
This workshop requires some supplies.
Please bring a clear plastic jug (orange juice container or 4-litre vinegar container, or something similar) plus a plastic bag for your jug.
The following supplies will be provided for you:
4 bags of Miracle Grow soil, 2-3 rolls of duct tape, a few trowels and waterproof markers.
Loretta will bring a drill to make holes in the bottom of the containers, an exacto knife to cut the jugs, and a selection of 7 different native plant seeds.
