Leaside Garden Society – Speaker Series presents:
Speaker: Joyce Hostyn (Rideau 1000 Islands Master Gardeners)
Topic: Perfectly Imperfect Lawns
Date: Thursday February 8th, 2024
Time & Place: 7pm Via Zoom – Guests Welcome
‘Lawns are no longer just about grass monocultures. You can have a polyculture lawn that’s stunning and ecologically friendly. Less mowing. No watering. No fertilizing. Wildlife friendly. Embrace the imperfection of a flowering lawn!’
Joyce Hostyn is a Master Gardener, permaculture designer, co-founder of Little Forests Kingston and adjunct professor at Queen’s University in Kingston.
As a rewilder, Joyce’s dreams inspire a different vision of cities – streets lined with fruit and nut trees, wild parks and wild yards. She explores what it means to be in conversation with the edible forest garden on her lawn-free quarter acre lot. Joyce coaches people on foodscaping and wildscaping as a new approach to gardening in a changing climate.
Her front yard Little Forest was featured in the Kingston Whig Standard. Photo here: https://www.queensu.ca/earthenergyleadership/joyce-hostyn
