“There was no way Howard Krug was selling his maples for bowling alleys.” – London Free Press, October 1977 article.
The Kinghurst Forest Nature Reserve, a hidden gem in Chatsworth Township, is the direct result of Howard Krug’s vision and commitment to sustainable forestry and careful resource conservation. Today, the reservation contains some of the last surviving examples of old-growth hardwood in the province. It also features a diverse ecosystem including meadows, wetlands and forest that are home to many species of birds, insects and plant communities.
Clarke Birchard will take us on a virtual tour of this amazing nature reserve and explain its history and its importance to our area’s environment. Sit back, take the “tour” and plan your own trip to the Kinghurst Nature Reserve.
There will be an update on our own gardening efforts and how our spring planting is coming along. Bring along any questions you may have. Social time, light snacks, coffee & tea will follow the meeting.
The meeting will be held at the Durham Town Hall, 185 George Street West, Durham West Grey starting at 7 PM.
