Herbal Teas and Food Security, with Kayoki Post-Whiteduck

September 26, 2023 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Our guest speaker, Kayoki Post-Whiteduck, will first speak about herbal teas, how he got into herbal teas, the herbs he works with, traditional Algonquin teas and how to make herbal teas. The second part of the presentation will be about food insecurity and the Ajashki Food Security and Climate Change Learning Center, which he leads.

Kayoki Post-Whiteduck first started gardening when he was 15. After working in the forestry sector for a few years after high school he decided to go back to school for Horticulture Technician at Camosun College Victoria B.C. He worked in landscaping for a few years until 2016 when he started his own business, Mitigomin Agriculture, where he grows and sells herbal teas. In 2021 he partnered with the First Unitarian Congregation of Ottawa to create the Ajashki Food Security and Climate Change Learning Center. Kayoki enjoys learning about plants, gardening and medicine. His interests are wild foods, organic food production, pollinators and he has a particular obsession with plants in the mint family.

ALSO: Come early to the meeting to renew or take out a membership. It is the start of the OHS membership year.

AND! Another great reason to come early…Akil Mesi from The Box of Life will have a demonstration worm composter as well as some jars of worm castings to give away. They are great for enriching any soil, including for your houseplants. He will be happy to answer any questions about composting using and indoor worm composter.

The presentation will also be live broadcast on the OHS YouTube Channel:
