Christina Keys will present on
What We Can Do About Invasive Plant Species
After identifying an invasive plant species on your property or in your community, what are the next steps? This presentation will cover recommendations for both individuals and communities to manage invasive plant species, reestablish native plant communities, and restore biodiversity.
Christina Keys is a former geography teacher with qualifications in international development and food security. When living in Aotearoa New Zealand, she became acutely aware of the ecological devastation caused by invasive mammal species. On returning to Canada, she learned about similar harm from invasive plant species and converted her urban property from lawn to native plantings with seeds from the Ottawa Wildflower Seed Library. She has worked with the Manor Park Community Association to remove invasive plant species and establish native plant gardens at the local school and across the neighbourhood.
