District 17
Ajax, Beaverton, Bowmanville, Brooklin, Cannington, Georgina-Brock, Newcastle, Orono, Oshawa, Pine Ridge, Pickering, Uxbridge
District 17 serves the Durham Region of Southern Ontario, with 12 groups and 1200 members. The D17 groups offers over 100 presentations by qualified and renowned speakers each season.
Each group offers back to its community special gardening initiatives and programs, including Plant Sales, public gardens, and youth and senior programs.
The Region spans a climate range from 5A to 4, and a geography encompassing the Lake Ontario and southern Lake Simcoe shorelines, the Oak Ridge Moraine, and glaciation affects and deposits. Its population of 645,000 ranges from concentrated suburban to rural farm and resource lands. This presents a wide-ranging opportunity for diversity and horticultural challenge to its member groups.
