Bio

She has been an active gardener since her early years learning all about veggie gardening from her Dad and
grandparents who were all active gardeners. Penny had her own Veggie and Flower garden at age 5.
She studied Biology and her best mark in an Arts course was in Floral Design as taught by the women of the Royal
Botanical Garden at the University of Guelph.
Penny gardens for the sheer enjoyment. She became involved in the Gananoque Horticultural Society about 20 years
ago once her children had grown up. Penny is an active exec member. She is a past OHA Board member.
She is involved on the OHA Judging Committee. She has expanding her horticultural and design knowledge by doing the
Royal Botanical Garden Accreditation in Horticulture and OHA certification in Design and Horticulture and the Garden
Clubs of Ontario Design accreditation. She is also a student of the Ohara School of Ikebana.
Penny both “Grows to Show” and “Shows to Grow” and has been awarded the Gananoque Horticultural Society Grand
Champion Award a few times . She loves to be outside in her gardens and has opened her garden for Tours. She has
grown children who along with her spouse help her keep up with the weeds. She also enjoys photography and pottery as
other hobbies. During non- garden season she skis –why not she can’t garden.
On the career side she is a retiree having spent 33 years with the Ontario Ministry of the Environment with a broad
experience base in many areas of environmental protection and regulatory enforcement.
