Russell and District Horticultural Society

District 1

About Us

The Russell and District Horticultural Society is an enthusiastic group of gardeners that live in and around the township of Russell Ontario.

The Russell and District Horticultural Society is a group dedicated to developing interest and education in horticulture in gardeners of all ages. Besides an active adult group, we also have a juniors group.

The Society promotes the protection of the natural environment and the beautification of the community. We hold meetings and educational workshops and encourage the planting of trees, shrubs and flowers in the community.

We are always looking for ways to give back to our community. MacDougall Park, a little gem in the heart of Russell village has been looked after by the Society for decades. Working with the local Lion's Club and many, many volunteers, the Society led the charge to build a dry stone bridge in the park. This stunning addition is now a favourite spot for residents and visitors alike. The Society also installed a Children's Reading Garden at the Russell Branch of the library, a Serenity Garden at Russell Meadows Retirement Community and holds flower shows each year. The Society also organizes an annual event called March it on Out that encourages the reuse of unwanted items.

We are very proud of our community and love to help make it even more beautiful!
