Bruce Station Horticultural Society
District 13
Bruce Station Horticultural Society's inaugural meeting was held in Bruce Station Hall (just north of Bruce Mines, Hwy 17) on November 16, 1949. On same date and place 70 years later, the community joined in an Anniversary Tea. Out came the silver tea service, fancy teacups and grandma's dessert plates; 40's music played in the background. Just like old times, attendees enjoyed a homemade wholesome carrot cake.
And that was one of several special events that our small but energetic and creative membership organized in 2019. We tend to reach out and get others involved, and a kind of synergy happens. Each member brings his/her own set of skills and knowledge to offer and share. We have speakers, field trips, workshops, garden tours and more year round.
We are particularly proud to be the host of a joint rural Seedy Saturday event, about to occur for the fourth time in Central Algoma. And that partnership has sprouted yet another project - pollinator gardens and hotel located near the Johnson Farmers' Market in Desbarats.
