District 3 held its board meetings and AGM and Fall Advisory by Zoom. We were very fortunate to have the IT knowledge and skills available to allow this to work very smoothly. We put a focus on Societies to recognize their volunteers and to look at the OHA Awards book.
Society AGM's were attended by the Director or a designate but most were by Zoom with only 2 of 15 being in person ( during a brief period of fewer restrictions ). The District 3 Service Award was awarded at a socially distanced and masked presentation with just the recipient and awarder present.
Due to COVID 19 restrictions, we were unable to have any face-to-face meetings with the Societies our AGM and Fall Advisory meetings were held on Zoom. The majority of the Society AGM's that are attended by the Director or a designate were held on Zoom. Only 2 Societies had face-to-face AGM's.
Zoom is a handy tool but can not fully replace the networking that the D3 Board was able to do with its societies. We were able to give our societies a break on paying D3 fees as the Board felt that our finances were stable and this would give any society who was struggling a small break.
Volunteer hours illustrates how valuable we are in our communities and across Ontario. As an analytical tool, volunteer hours can also be used to determine where time is being spent within a society, district, or organization which helps us make important decisions on programs, fundraising, and budget. For instance, horticultural society members volunteered over 517,000 hours in 2017!
