Our District paid for a Zoom account for all of our Societies to use. Some of our members live in isolated rural areas with poor Internet service and were unable to attend Zoom meetings. We kept in touch with emails and a regular newsletter outlining various OHA business, gardening tips and what was happening with other member Societies. District Director is on leave since June. We offerred a gardening quizz at each Zoom meeting and a good door (screen) prize to encourage attendance.
Loss of members and the worry that people may not return is a major concern.

Meeting venues were closed so we met via Zoom where possible. We had some great discussions about how Societies were coping and exchanged ideas. These were sent out in the newsletter to share with other groups.
During the COVID lock-downs we had no in person meetings; no visiting other groups; few fund raising activities but did become more inventive with the use of Facebook. Some Societies held Bingo, auctions and flower shows on line.

Volunteer hours illustrates how valuable we are in our communities and across Ontario. As an analytical tool, volunteer hours can also be used to determine where time is being spent within a society, district, or organization which helps us make important decisions on programs, fundraising, and budget. For instance, horticultural society members volunteered over 517,000 hours in 2017!
