Feb Spring Breakfast meeting became a zoom due to restrictions due to Covid, we had a great speaker Connie Biijl talking on Blooming Hope. District 6 held a judges update, we invited OHA and GCO judges and ended up with just under 150 judges over 2 days. Agm in April at last minute got changed to zoom which was a big disappointment but we had Rebecca Last-Lessons from my big fat garden reno which was a nice talk. Fall Breakfast meeting was a zoom at last moment, it was St Georges 100th birthday and we had a day planned, instead we had a very well done presentation on history of St George with a speaker on heritage apple varieties and then we partied online. lots of info presented. Fall Dinner was cancelled. We did participate in the Gage Park Mum Show, info table with all the society contact info and lots of seed pkg were available. For a fundraiser the District was gifted cases of Tenna Tops and sold them far and wide. Our only fundraiser in 2021. D6 Lost 2 Past Directors and OHA president, Earl Walker and Celia Roberts in 2021. We did get the honour of having the largest membership again in OHA with 2114 members, D6 rocks!
All D6 meetings became a zoom meeting, we missed some big celebrations that were for 100th birthdays, so much stress planing only to be canceled. Cancelling from societies because of Covid worries. Newsletters were the main form of info, trying to keep all societies engaged and active one way or another. Offered zoom training and meetings for any and all who needed.
Volunteer hours illustrates how valuable we are in our communities and across Ontario. As an analytical tool, volunteer hours can also be used to determine where time is being spent within a society, district, or organization which helps us make important decisions on programs, fundraising, and budget. For instance, horticultural society members volunteered over 517,000 hours in 2017!
