Stoney Creek Garden Club & Horticultural Society
District 6
HISTORY
The Stoney Creek Horticultural Society was established in 1926 but its mission has remained the same, to encourage an interest in horticulture. We abide by Section 36 of the Agricultural and Horticultural Organizations Act.
LOGO
To acknowledge the importance of planting native plant species that provide food and shelter for native animals and insects, the red trillium was recently chosen as the Society’s logo. The Peace Tower in the background is from Battlefield Park where in the 1812-1814 war with the US, the Americans were finally defeated.
WHAT WE DO
Donations are made annually to the City of Hamilton beautification department and to a student studying horticulture. The Society supports the Royal Botanical Gardens by purchasing two memberships for members to use. We host monthly speakers and demonstrators on plants, invasive species, gardens, how-to and other gardening initiatives in support of our mission.
We have a great silent auction at our meeting in March. The Garden Club is honoured to have many local businesses support our silent auction with valuable wares that we sell as a fundraising effort.
We host an annual plant sale in May where we offer annual and perennial plants. This year May 11, just in time for Mother's Day.
Don't miss our annual Strawberry Social at our meeting in June. This year, it is our vision to have a party, not just a social event. See you there.
