District 15
Brampton, Chinguacousy, Cloverleaf, Credit Valley, Etobicoke, Nobleton & King City, Parkdale & Toronto, Richmond Hill, Roselands, Schomberg, Streetsville, Swansea, Thornhill, Woodbridge.
District 15 is comprised of 14 societies. We have a mix of rural and urban societies. Our boundaries include the regions of Peel, York west of Road No. 1, and Toronto west of Yonge Street. Representatives from each society meet annually for our District Annual General Meeting and our two District Advisory meetings. The District Board meets several times throughout the year in preparation for the AGM and District Advisory meetings and other special meetings as the need arises.
No matter what skill levels one has, be it youth or first-time gardeners, be it experienced gardeners or even Master Gardeners and Horticulturalists, the joy of gardening can be experienced by all age groups and people no matter their level of experience. There is something of interest for everyone at a Horticultural Society, regardless if your garden is a tiny balcony or a vast sprawling country estate, or somewhere in between.
At our recent Advisory meeting (Nov. 03, 2024) we were hosted by the Horticultural Societies of Parkdale/Toronto and had a lovely afternoon packed with updates and information that all Society board members should be aware of. We had 5 round tables. People joined the table (thus the topic) they wanted to be participate in. This allowed a great exchange of the how, why, issues, successes that each Society represented had experienced. The information was documented and distributed to all Society boards. The venue offered tasty refreshments through out the afternoon and we had door prizes and a 50/50 draw.
A quick recap of the April 5, 2025 District 15 AGM. It's theme was "All About Veggies" and it was held at St. Matthew's United Church in Richmond Hill, Awards and trophies were given to various Societies and District Appreciation Certificates went to specific Society members who'd been nominated and to the D15 board members. Our guest speaker was Master Gardener, Sally Hossain who spoke on "Growing veggies in a small space." years on the District 15 Board and as District Director. We were pleased to have Charles Freeman, Immediate Past President of the OHA, with us to give us a message from the OHA and to do our elections. Our 2025 board is comprised of: three A.D.D.s Asna Black, Eleonora Schmied, Roberta Jennings, David Biensch (Treasurer), and Doreen Coyne, District Director. Lucia retired after 6 years as District Secretary. Doreen Coyne thanked the volunteers from several Societies who assisted with the planning and day-of execution of this meeting. She also thanked the two members of St. Matthew's United Church for their help with setup and behind the scenes efforts on the day-of the event. Bar O'Malley of the Credit Valley Horticultural Society, received the prestigious OHA District 15 Service award for her longstanding commitment to the Society and all of her volunteering for over 40 years. Both Bonnie-Lynn Murphy and Sylvie Makkreel were elected as our 2025 Financial Reviewers.
