St. Catharines Horticultural Society
District 9
PRESERVING OUR HERITAGE. PLANTING FOR OUR FUTURE.
The very first meeting of the St. Catharines Horticultural Society was held on June 29, 1857. Since then our members have provided countless hours of volunteer service to make our city more beautiful.
We are a non profit organization. Our members share a common interest in gardening, and a desire to increase their knowledge of plants and other aspects of gardening.
MISSION OF OUR SOCIETY
To provide leadership and assist in the promotion and education in all areas of gardening, horticulture, and environmental issues, thereby beautifying and providing enjoyment for all.
WHAT WE DO
- maintain the gardens at the historic British Methodist Episcopal Church on Geneva St.
- work with the city to keep St. Catharines beautiful by donating funds for parks and other public places.
- provide bursaries and awards for horticultural students
- encourage homeowners to beautify their properties by sponsoring the City's Trillium awards for residential gardens.
- annual garden tour
- annual plant sale
The love of gardening is a seed once sown that never dies. ~Gertrude Jekyll
