Essex & District Horticultural Society
District 11
Welcome to the Essex Horticultural Society page. We have been in existence since 1974 when a group of like minded residents, led by Rev. Gordon Geiger met to discuss the possibility of forming a horticultural society. Our society floral emblem is the Swamp Rose Mallow, native to our area. Newcomers often tell us how FRIENDLY our members are! Our society's aims are to provide members a place to share information on gardening and co-ordinate efforts to beautify our area. Each year the Society arranges special events related to horticulture, ranging from plant exchanges to day trips and a flower show. Most members are average home gardeners who have a basic knowledge of gardening and horticulture. Many have a considerable knowledge and a few are expert Master Gardeners. We help each other and share our knowledge and love of gardening. High School students who require Community Volunteer Hours may contact us to help us at our meeting place with preparing flower beds, plant, weed and on occasion water. We have an interesting & informative speaker at each of our general meetings, along with twice yearly plant & seed exchanges and silent auctions.
