St. Thomas and District Horticultural Society

District 10

About Us

The St.Thomas & District Horticultural Society has the distinction of being the oldest, continuous running society in Elgin County. The Ladies Temperance Society held the record until closing a few years back, but since 1870 we have had a horticultural society in St.Thomas and District. Like our banner states "Urbs Bella" we really do have a beautiful city, thanks in part to our active members. Our red rose symbol for our society and the City of St. Thomas is the 'Crimson Glory' an historic Hybrid Tea.
We encourage new members to join us, you can be sure of a warm welcome, no experience necessary just a love of gardening and plants.
We meet the 4th Wednesday of the month Jan to May then September to June at 7:00 at The CASO: Canada Southern Railway Station, 750 Talbot St. W., St.Thomas, Ontario.
There are committees to join that require membership support. These include: Seedy Saturdays, Community Gardens (CASO Station and at the St. Thomas Elevated Park), Annual Spring Plant Sale (May 25), Flower Show-June 20th., 2020 with setup on the 19th., Garden Tour for June 23 of 2019, Adopt a Highway (April, October), Canadale Kids' Club (April 5-7), Canadale Spring Garden Show (April 6-8), St. Thomas-Garden Ontario Website, Facebook, Picture Archive, Newsletter, Refreshments, Speakers, Mini Show planning, membership, Community Gardens (STEP, CASO), Grant Applications.
These positions are not elected positions so a nomination to join is not required. Please help out anywhere you can. Training and support is always available. The Society is as strong as the participation of all its members. Many hands make light work!
Please note that coming as a guest to a Board meeting or sitting on a committee to see the opportunities is a good way to test the waters.

Student Award application must be submitted by the last Friday of April
