Join us for an evening as Aleksia explains the lifecycle of these amazing plants\, as well as why they’re so difficult to grow and transplant.\nAlexandria Shoalts is a Master Gardener\, former garden columnist for the Voice of Pelham\, and past executive member of both the Pelham Garden Club and Simcoe Horticultural Society. She enjoys the daily challenges and rewards of gardening on her country property in North Pelham\, ranging from tackling invasives\, to keeping out deer\, to growing cut flowers\, integrating native plants\, gardening for butterflies\, and growing food and vegetables for her family\, including her three young boys (ages one\, three\, and five who are always eager to help!). Alexandria earned a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Waterloo and completed her Master Gardener training at the University of Guelph. In her free time\, she enjoys forest walks and foraging for wild mushrooms with her other half\, explorer and nature author Adam Shoalts.

Ontario Horticultural Judge certified Flower Show Judge Wendy Somers will be presenting “McFarland House Holiday Decorations”. A picturesque look at the beautiful seasonal floral decoration installation created by the Garden Club of Niagara at the historic house. \nFor more than two centuries\, McFarland House has stood as a monument to the impeccable demeanour\, good taste and gracious living that epitomizes Niagara-on-the-Lake. Built at the turn of the 19th century by Scotsman John McFarland\, the home was used as a military hospital during the War of 1812 by both the Americans and the British. Today\, costumed interpreters provide guided tours of this historic home with several special events hosted throughout the year.
