SUMMARY:CHS April Meeting: ‘Fruit Trees: Pruning & Care’
DESCRIPTION:This meeting was rescheduled from March. Power outage in Cannington resulted in a postponement and we are pleased to offer the presentation on Monday April 14\, 2025. \nPlease join us in welcoming Rob Alexander the general manager at Nature’s Bounty Farm in Port Perry. Since 2018\, Rob has been responsible for growing and maintaining 24 acres of orchard which includes 25 varieties of apple and two different pear cultivars. The orchard consists of over 12\,000 trees\, ranging from recently planted high-density to 40-year-old semi-dwarf trees. Rob has traveled around the Great Lakes\, visited dozens of orchards\, and has learned best management practices from growers across Canada and the USA. With a background in marketing and public relations\, Rob has helped transform Nature’s Bounty into a leading agritourism destination in Durham Region. He is also an active volunteer in various agricultural organizations\, including Durham Farm Fresh and the Durham Federation of Agriculture. \nRob will bring his experience and knowledge working with fruit trees – as well as tools of the trade and samples of common diseases found on fruit trees. Join us and learn from Rob. With the recent damage resulting from the ice storm on our trees Rob will follow the presentation with a Q&A. \nDoors open at 7pm – Membership Registration Table open at 7pm. All welcome.
