SUMMARY:Credit Valley Horticultural Society October Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Please join us to hear our guest speaker\, Clement Kent.  Clement will be speaking about “Native Bulbs and Corms You Can Multiply”.  Some native plants are great for gardens\, but costly to buy.  This talk introduces species that will increase in your garden from a half dozen to hundreds in a few years – ready for giving away\, for stocking public gardens\, or just for creating an amazing seasonal swath.  We all know trillium are tricky and native orchids are absolutely awful to buy!  With the species Clement will introduce\, you can fill an area with just a little care and patience. \n

SUMMARY:Schomberg Horticultural Society - Daryll Cheng\, "Houseplants\, most important - least understood"
DESCRIPTION:Darryl Cheng is the author of ‘The New Plant Parent’ and ‘The New Plant Collector’ and creator of House Plant Journal. Darryl’s passion for plants and engineering approach to plant care have turned him into one of the most trusted houseplant resources on the internet! What was initially a hobby Tumblr page has turned into an Instagram account with over half a million followers\, a go-to website for anything houseplant related\, his very own houseplant care book\, and plant time-lapse videos that have gone viral around the world. \nMost Important\, Least Understood \nOutdoor gardeners generally have a good sense of their sunlight exposure and indoor grow ops have well documented instructions to follow – but houseplant owners are left with vague\, hand-wavy directions like “bright indirect light” – which leads to dramatically different interpretations and results. In this talk\, Darryl will reveal the secrets to understanding light with a particular focus on how it applies to houseplants – comparing natural light and grow lights. You will finally be able to make sense of light! \n  \nhttps://www.houseplantjournal.com/ \nRefreshments\, door prizes. Pumpkin carving competition. \nFree to members\, $ 5.00  non-members at the door \n

SUMMARY:CHS April Meeting: Mushrooms~Wild & Wonderful
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a interesting evening on the topic of ‘Mushrooms – Wild & Wonderful’ with Julia Tchervova and John Caswell. Mushrooms are far more than just food. They are ecological engineers\, chemical innovators\, and one of the most misunderstood kingdoms of life. Let’s explore their hidden world together. John and Julia would like to share not only the art and science of mushroom foraging\, but also the fascinating world of fungi — organisms that form vast “wood wide web” networks\, support plant and animal life\, produce powerful medicines\, and even help restore damaged environments.\n\n\nJulia’s journey into the world of mushrooms began when she was six years old\, walking through the forests with her grandfather\, who was an avid forager. What started as childhood curiosity grew into a lifelong passion for fungi — from identifying wild edible species to understanding the incredible underground networks that connect entire ecosystems.\n\nWhen Julia met John\, he expressed an interest in wild mushrooms. Julia began mentoring him\, and he took the initiative getting a guidebook\, venturing into the woods\, and learning to confidently identify his findings. They both have a deep passion for the woods\, and there’s nothing better than exploring the forest and discovering wild edible and medicinal mushrooms.\nSince 2018\, they started collecting mushrooms for sale and selling at numerous farmer’s markets. For 5 years now they lead practical classes – wild mushrooms foray\, where they share their knowledge with their students on how to identify mushrooms\, how to search for them\, introducing the students to the unseeing world of fungi that is right under our feet.\nBring your questions and learn more about the wonderful world of fungi!\n\n\nAlso this evening starts the flower show season. All members are invited to bring in their garden treasures to wow the judge for the April Flower Show! All entries to be in place by 7pm for the start of judging.Doors open at 6:30pm.
