SUMMARY:CHS April Meeting: Indigenously Infused Gardening
DESCRIPTION:Meet Robyn Ivory Pierson\, a proud Anishinaabe mother of three from the Curve Lake First Nation\, who has dedicated her life to promoting and sharing the beauty of Indigenous culture through her business\, Indigenously Infused. What began as a personal healing journey has evolved into a full-time career and lifelong learning experience. Robyn has incorporated her teaching degree to expand her offerings\, facilitating workshops that teach about the sacred medicines and contemporary methods of art with the medicines.
Robyn’s interest in traditional knowledge and the Anishinaabeg language led her to construct a greenhouse\, and create a medicine wheel garden – to learn how to grow her own medicines. Her passion for learning and teaching has also led her to become a professor at both Sir Sanford Fleming College in Peterborough and Lindsay\, Ontario. \nMeet John McIntosh\, a passionate arborist\, and lover of nature. With a deep respect for the interconnections of science and indigenous knowledge\, he is committed to learning Anishinaabemowin and honoring the traditional stewards of the land and methods which have been used since time immemorial. Originally from Peterborough\, John has been a proud resident of Curve Lake for three years where he resides with his wife\, Robyn\, and their three children. John attended Fleming College in 2013\, where he studied Urban Forestry and gained valuable insights into his craft. Apart from his work as an arborist\, John is a proud father and skilled groundskeeper at Indigenously Infused. His background in gardening and greenhouse work has made him a well-rounded educator\, and he is passionate about sharing his knowledge with others. \nJoin the Cannington Horticultural Society on April 29 as both Robyn and John share their passion about Indigenous gardening. A unquie opportunity to learn from a traditional knowledge base – we invite you to come out learn\, grow & enjoy with CHS. Robyn and John will also bring along some of their own line of products from the Indigenously Infused Garden business – available for purchase. \nFirst Flower Show of the season! A fun way to showcase what is growing in your gardens! Open to all CHS Members– check your 2024 Yearbook for a full listing of classes\, including classes for the Youth Members! Get growing with CHS and have some fun displaying your spring garden gems. \nDoors open 6:30 pm for placement of Flower Show exhibits. All entries to be in place by 7pm sharp – judging to follow.
