DESCRIPTION:Peonies are beloved for their gorgeous blooms and captivating fragrance. They are adaptable\, easy to grow plants that fit into any garden style. Tonight’s speaker will reveal the different types of peonies that can be grown in our gardens\, and highlight variances in flower forms and colours. She will also share how we can achieve 6 weeks of peony blooms in our gardens\, and tips for dealing with the few pests and diseases that can plague peonies. \nIngrid Janssen is a horticulturist\, speaker\, blogger and master gardener. She has been gardening for most of her life and is a passionate\, some would say\, “Crazy” gardener. Ingrid is an inspirational speaker who has appeared on TV and has spoken at Canada Blooms several times. She has both ornamental and food production gardens on her country property and has been a dedicated native plant enthusiast for more than 30 years. Ingrid earned a Horticulturist Diploma from the University of Guelph and is an active member of several horticultural and plant societies\, as well as the Durham Master Gardeners. \nTonight’s guest speaker is planning to participate in-person. \nMembers: Instructions for participation in this virtual and in-person event will be emailed to members twice – once on the Friday prior to the meeting\, and again on Monday. Learn how to grow\, harvest and use these aromatic and colorful plants to elevate your cooking and add beauty to your plate. You’ll discover creative ways to incorporate garden-fresh ingredients into everyday meals and special occasions.   \nNancy McDonald grew up on a farm on PEI and learned the practical aspects of gardening from her parents. Her love of flowers came from spending time in her grandmother’s beautiful mixed garden. After 42 years of a very fulfilling nursing career\, Nancy’s thoughts turned to retirement and volunteer opportunities. She has been a member of the Master Gardeners of Ottawa-Carleton for 15 years.  As a Master Gardener\, Nancy completed the Pollinator Steward Certification in 2024. She is a member of the Ottawa Horticultural Society and continues to enjoy her small suburban garden and the birds\, bees and butterflies that visit. She also enjoys making flavorful recipes in her kitchen using herbs and edible flowers from her garden.

Come and explore the beautiful vistas\, rolling hills and down-to-earth hospitality of King Township. Tickets (non-refundable) are available on June 1st on eventbrite.ca and on garden tour day at the Schomberg Library at 77 Main Street at 9:30 am. $ 15.00 pp\, rain or shine.
