SUMMARY:Monthly Assembly
DESCRIPTION:Whitewater Gardeners invites you to join us on February 22nd 2025 for our monthly assembly! \n\nVictoria grew up on her family farm. For over 25 years\, her parents\, Dennis and Margaret grew and sold countless annuals\, perennials\, trees and shrubs to plant lovers across the Ottawa Valley. Dacre Nursery was a hive of activity every season. Victoria spent many hours after school and in the summer transplanting\, watering\, and helping customers. The farm took a well deserved rest around 2012. \nIn 2021\, her husband Sam and herself moved back to the farm. She had known for years that she wanted to return to agriculture in some form. When she began to learn more about the expanding domestic cut flower industry in Canada\, starting a flower farm seemed like a perfect fit. Welcome Mad Valley Flower Farm. \n\nWhether you are a master or new to the gardening world Whitewater Gardeners is for you. \nStick around after our speaker to discuss new and exciting events. Contribute your ideas and opinions and join our growing Society.

SUMMARY:Growing organic vegetables: a passion to heal the land and the body
DESCRIPTION:In his presentation\, Jonathan will talk about growing organic vegetables from March to December. If you are curious about how this can be accomplished in our Ottawa climate without heated greenhouses\, this presentation will inspire \nyou. Jonathan is passionate about providing people with delicious organic vegetables\, but also loves to encourage others to grow great food on their own. \nHe will share some of the best tips and tricks of the trade\, and maybe even some of his best kept secrets. \nJonathan Bruderlein came to Ottawa after years of experience operating an organic farm in the Montreal area  followed by a sabbatical where he\, his wife Julianne and young son visited and connected with many other organic farmers across North America.  \nJonathan came to farming after deciding that medical school wasn’t for him\, and that agronomy is where he could have a bigger impact on the lives of other people. He and his family are now in their 5th year operating Ottawa Farm Fresh that they started with the idea of building a community-supported farm\, where members benefit from fresh organically grown vegetables\, get a chance to be involved in community celebrations and harvesting activities. For Jonathan\, farming is more than a career\, it’s a lifestyle.

SUMMARY:March General Meeting: Guest Speaker Patterson Webster
DESCRIPTION:March General Meeting: Guest Speaker Patterson Webster\, “Creating a Personal Paradise: The Story of Glen Villa Art Garden”\nTonight’s speaker encourages us to go beyond endeavoring to make our gardens look beautiful to additionally making our garden spaces distinctly our own.\nIn this inspirational program\, Patterson Webster will share the story of how she transformed an attractive but conventional garden into one that uses history\, art and horticulture to tell a unique story. Leveraging photographs spanning twenty-five years\, we will virtually tour Glen Villa\, a 750-acre property in the Eastern Townships of Quebec. During our tour\, we’ll visit special garden areas and art installations\, and explore ideas that may help us to tell our own distinct garden stories. \nPatterson Webster is a passionate garden designer\, writer and installation artist who creates personalized landscapes that respond to the history of a site and the people who lived on it. Although retired from leading garden tours to international destinations\, she continues to be a popular speaker\, lecturing on art\, garden history and design. Articles she has authored about gardens and garden design have appeared in numerous publications. And\, her book\, Autobiography of a Garden\, explores the rich history of her Quebec garden\, Glen Villa Art Garden\, featured on several Canadian television programs.
