SUMMARY:CHS September Meeting: "HERBS~Creating a Home Garden"
DESCRIPTION:Cannington Horticultural Society welcomes Kate and Phil Collins – proud owners of Foggy River Farm. A small-scale regenerative herb farm and forest garden near Uxbridge\, Ontario. How does one decide what herbs to plant and where? Come out and learn from our guest speakers. \nPhil holds a bachelor of landscape architecture from the University of Guelph and is a fully licensed Landscape Architect. A horticulturalist who has been designing thriving edible ecosystems from small urban backyards to large commercial spaces. Phil is also a seasoned educator teaching all levels from kindergarten through to high school. He has facilitated student-led design of numerous gardens and outdoor spaces. \nKate took the leap from city life to rural back in 2013. And has embraced the world of herbs\, how to grow\, prepare and use various remedies for the home apothecary. Together they practice ecological farming and ethical wildcrafting guided by permaculture\, herbalism and their reverence for the earth. Cultivating over 40 different types of herbs\, including nettles\, red clover\, yarrow\, sage\, lemon balm\, peppermint\, spearmint\, lavender\, thyme\, oregano\, anise hyssop\, chamomile\, catnip and more! \nJoin us as Kate and Phil give you the insight to designing and growing your very own herb gardens – how to design your garden\, where to plant\, what to plant and when to harvest. They are excited to share their wisdom to help you love growing and playing with herbs too. \nAlso featured tonight is the CHS Youth Summer Challenge: “Small Gardens~BIG Changes”. Join us at 7pm for the Youth presentations and awards.
