DESCRIPTION:In-person presentation by Matthieu Morin\, Food\, Plant and Animal K9 Officer\, Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA)  \nJoin us for a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at how the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) works to protect Canada’s environment and agriculture.  In this unique presentation\, a CBSA officer– partnered with a highly trained detector dog– will demonstrate how they work together to prevent the introduction of invasive pests\, plant diseases and prohibited soil or plant materials at our borders.  Learn about the critical role these canine teams play in protecting our gardens\, farms and ecosystems from biosecurity threats and discover what you can do to support this vital mission.  \nMatt Morin\, an experienced Food\, Plant and Animal K9 Officer with expertise in the subject of importation of food and plants\, has over 15 years experience sharing his knowledge with various audiences.  Over these past several years\, he has delivered  demonstrations and educational talks to a wide range of audiences\, including the public at universities\, high schools\, fairs and other community events as well as internal stakeholders at CBSA. His experience and engaging presentation style have helped raise awareness about the importance of biosecurity and the role of border services in protecting Canada’s agriculture and environment.  \nIn addition to his border security work\, Matthieu was recently accepted as a Master Gardener-in-Training and loves to garden. \nPlease note that as both dog and handler are Canada Border Services employees\, cameras are not allowed during the talk – no photos\, and no recordings\, so there will not be a livestream via Zoom.

Sherry Dodson presents a topic close to her heart – ‘Harvesting Health & Healing: Horticultural Therapy’.  This presentation introduces horticultural therapy\, explores its goals\, and highlights who can benefit from this unique and effective therapeutic approach. \nSherry holds a Horticulturist Certificate from the University of Guelph and a Certificate in Horticultural Therapy from the Toronto Botanical Garden. She has been an active member of the Durham Master Gardeners since 2011.  Sherry is passionate about the natural connection between people and plants\, and she works to harness this bond to help individuals improve their well-being—whether it’s by enhancing mobility\, encouraging physical activity\, or fostering a more positive outlook on life. \nCome out and see how gardening may be more beneficial than just great tomatoes and nice flowers! \nMay Flower Show – all members are encouraged to join the fun and show off a few of their favourite garden blooms. DESCRIPTION:The Schomberg Horticultural Society’s Annual Garden Tour showcases some of the most beautiful gardens and properties in and around Schomberg in breath-taking King Township.      This self guided\, self driving tour features around 8 gardens that are rarely open to the public and is in collaboration with Arts Society King\, the Schomberg Community Farm and the Township of King. Come and explore the beautiful vistas\, rolling hills and down-to-earth hospitality of King Township. Tickets (non-refundable) are available on June 1st on eventbrite.ca and on garden tour day at the Schomberg Library at 77 Main Street at 9:30 am. $ 15.00 pp\, rain or shine.
