United Nations International Day of the Volunteer – December 5th
December 5, 2020
United Nations International Day of the Volunteer
Theme: “Together We Can Through Volunteering”
Bobcaygeon and District Horticultural Society – John Bick
Our Society would like to honour John Bick as our society’s volunteer for the United Nations International Volunteer Day on December 5th.
John has been with our society as a volunteer for over 20 years. He has served as President and spent countless hours maintaining our pollinator garden, the garden at Settler’s Village and the Service Centre gardens. He volunteers for garden plantings, clean ups and delivers plants, compost and mulch to various gardens we maintain. He organizes plant sales, he provides his barn for the potting of plants and winters over plants in his garden for the plant sale. He is always available whenever help is needed. John is also an active member of the Environmental Action (Bobcaygeon) Inc. Thank you John, for your many years of dedicated work for our society.
Lakefield and District Horticultural Society – Bev Thompson
Our Society would like to honour Bev Thompson as our society’s volunteer for the United Nations International Volunteer Day on December 5th.
Through difficult times and a very hot summer, Bev has done a terrific job managing the gardens in Lakefield. She has shown great leadership and dedication to her garden crew. The gardens and hanging baskets were even better than last year. Thank you Bev, from our society and the village of Lakefield.

She is a behind-the-scenes tireless worker who gets things done. She is dedicated, reliable, and consistent and has been such an amazing contributor for so long that we’d like to honour her with this recognition. She has a calm and friendly, practical nature. She has a good sense of humour as well.
