The Historic Gardens of Spadina House.

October 14, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

This talk is about the history of the site and the rehabilitation of the grounds that was undertaken in 1983-4, using historic photos as well as photos of the progression of the gardens through the years since then.

Wendy has an Honours Bsc. degree from U of T and gained experience in many areas of horticulture working for the City of Toronto Parks department. She is currently the Heritage Horticulturist for the Museums section of the City of Toronto’s Culture Division. She works at Spadina Historic House and Gardens.

When the Toronto Historical Board acquired the Spadina site from the Austin family in 1982 they needed someone to lead the clean-up project on the grounds. Wendy became the project leader and this turned into a full time job involving the historic rehabilitation of the gardens at Spadina Museum and now the on-going care and curation of the gardens and grounds.

Wendy raises all of the annuals and vegetables that are planted out in the gardens from seeds or cuttings in the 1913 greenhouse.
