CHS March Meeting: Horticulture as Therapy
March 28, 2022 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Join us for the startup meeting of the 2022 season! In this current world of pandemic and global climate concerns we can all look for a little help to ease our souls! Join us for a timely look into the world of therapeutic horticulture.
Phil Spring first joined Sunnybrook Hospital as an Arts Therapist working in their Veterans department. Within a few years he achieved his Certification and became Horticultural Therapist at the hospital staying in the position for 22 years. His work covered the design and creation of 2.2 acres of gardens providing a variety of themed areas geared to the abilities and needs of the Veteran patients it served. Patients could interact from the most basic viewing level to participating in the growing and care of the various garden rooms. There was also a greenhouse which produced @ 20,000 plants per year that were used across all Sunnybrook’s outdoor spaces. Phil will be sharing his knowledge and stories of the incredible benefit that Therapeutic Horticulture offers to both patients and the general public alike.
