CLASSES FOR MONTHLY COMPETITIONS 2009

            JANUARY                  Ÿ Nil

 

FEBRUARY               Ÿ Valentines Day Arrangement – Real or dried flowers.

                                    Ÿ Potted Plant – Grown in your home for at least 3 months.

                                    Ÿ Pot of spring bulbs – Forced at home by the member.

 

MARCH                     Ÿ St. Patrick’s Day Arrangement – Real or dried flowers.

                                    Ÿ Multiple Monotones – 2 or more containers using real or dried flowers in only one colour.

                                    Ÿ African Violet – Grown in your home for at least 3 months.

                                    Ÿ Pot of spring bulbs – Forced at home by the member.

                                                                                                                                    

APRIL                        Ÿ Easter Arrangement – Real or dried flowers.

                                    Ÿ Waterviewing Design  - Design in a shallow container with ½ to 2/3 of container surface showing

                                                 water.

                                    Ÿ Potted Plant – Grown in your home for at least 3 months.

         Ÿ Container Garden - At least 3 different varieties of plants growing in soil.

          

MAY                           Ÿ Mothers’ Day Arrangement - Real flowers.

                                    Ÿ Table Centrepiece – Using Spring flowers, not to exceed 12”, with one or two candles (candles

                                                 may be taller).

         Ÿ Vase of one variety of Spring flowers - Grown by the member, one vase only.

         Ÿ Vase of flowering branches – Minimum 3 to 5 stems, 1 or more varieties.

 

JUNE                          Ÿ Flower Show - Schedule to be published separately.

 

JULY and AUGUST   Ÿ No meetings.


SEPTEMBER             Ÿ Potluck Supper and Awards Night - No regular meeting.

 

 

OCTOBER                 Ÿ Thanksgiving Arrangement – Using real fruit / vegetables / flowers.

                                    Ÿ Buffet Arrangement – One sided, using real flowers.

                                    Ÿ Vase of Mixed Flowers - Real flowers, grown by the member.

                                    Ÿ Miniature Design - Using real or dried flowers. Maximum 5" in any direction. Container less than

             1.5".

 

NOVEMBER              Ÿ Small Arrangement – Using real or dried flowers. Maximum 10" any direction.

                                    Ÿ Potted Plant – Grown in your home for at least 3 months.

                                    Ÿ Container Garden - At least 3 different varieties of plants growing in soil.

                                    Ÿ Arrangement - Using only branches, grasses and seed pods, real or dried.

 

            DECEMBER              Ÿ Christmas Arrangement – Using real or dried flowers.

                                                Ÿ Christmas Arrangement – Using candles, pine cones and/ or  ornaments, etc.

 

RULES

 

  1. Only live flowers and foliage can be accepted – no plastic or silk allowed, although dried plant material and grasses may be used.
  2. Potted plants must have been in the exhibitors’ possession for at least 3 months.
  3. For an arrangement, purchased flowers may be used. For a vase, flowers/branches must have been grown by the member. For a container garden, purchased plants may be used.
  4. One entry only per class. Only 3 entries per month.

 

EVERYONE IS ENCOURAGED TO ENTER THE MONTHLY COMPETITIONS. THEY ARE ANNOUNCED IN THE NEWSLETTERS. POINTS ARE TOTALLED FROM OCTOBER TO JUNE AND BULBS ARE GIVEN OUT AS PRIZES AT THE OCTOBER MEETING.
